from Cochem to Cologne
We felt like going back after hanging around the old town. It was still 3:30 in the afternoon, but I got tired and a couple glasses of wine made me feel little sleepy.
We walked a different street alongside the riverside street that we had walked. The number of people was getting smaller and the buildings looked ordinary while we were going to the station. It was so dull that the 10 minutes' walk made me feel longer.
We were very lucky because we didn't have to wait for train for long time during the day trip. It wasn't the exception when we arrived at Cochem station, and what is more, the destination of the train we got was Colone which we didn't need to transfer at Koblenz.
We went to a dining car before looking for seats. We were thirsty as we didn't drink water but alcohol. In addition, we, as train journey lovers, wanted to go to a dining car of DB as long as we were on board for nearly 2 hours.
A dining car called BordBistro of Intercity which we were on board had 4 tables with seats, a table for quick-bite and a counter. I was going to buy a bottle of water (it's true!), but I changed my mind and bought a bottle of beer because the price is almost the same. I mean, I brought up where we are able to have plenty of water for free, so that it was uncomfortable to pay for water although I understand the circumstances in other countries. The beer I had was Beck's, a pilsner produced by a brewery in Bremen, situated in the northwest of Germany. Probably, it is also familiar for Japanese people as it is exported to a number of countries including Japan. I personally like it very much. We stayed at a dining car drinking beer, seeing the changing scenery through the window, and watching a dining car crew working until it arrived at Cologne.
The train arrived at Cologne central station at 6 o'clock. Comparing to the towns that we visited, Cologne was far larger and bustling. But it was calmer than the day before. The parade of Cologne Pride seemed to have finished, and I didn't see anybody looked bizarre. Many people walked to the station, perhaps they are going home. Only fire engines and municipal staff flushing out the rubbish on the street made me imagine the festive parade in the afternoon.
We got back to our room to leave the things and went out for dinner. We went to another Brauhaus in the west side of the cathedral. I didn't feel like drinking as I had already had enough, but I had a glass of Kölsch with a local dish. It was the same reason that I chose a bottle of beer on the train, which was the price of a grass of Kölsch and mineral water was the same. I had no idea what to eat on a menu written in German and ordered one of them without thinking seriously. It was grilled Leberkäse, a kind of meatloafs which taste like spam. It was heavy for my poor digestion even though it was no so bad as it looked.

I was after 9 o'clock when we finished dinner. It was still light out, and then I realised that our location is on higher latitude than in Tokyo. Only a small number of vehicles and people were in the street, and at the end, we saw a cathedral dyed orange by sunset. It was the quietest moment since I came in Cologne.
