Norwgian Petroleum Museum (Norsk Oljemuseum

Oh, I have to tell you about Stavanger.

I think it isn't popular in Japan, and it looked typical small seaport town in Europe as far as I thought when I was walking around there. But actually, this city is a on-shore centre for the oil industry since oil was discovered in the North Sea in 1960's. And therefore, it made Stavanger as one of the most influential and important cities in Norway.

From Scandinavia (2010-06)

This is one of the reason why Norwgian Petroleum Museum (Norsk Oljemuseum) was opened in Stavanger.

The museum is situated near the port, and the building looks like a small oil platform. The exhibition explains "how oil and gas are created, discovered and produced, and what they are used for" and how the industry associates with Norwegian society.

I wasn't especially interested in oil and energy industry, but I don't mind because whatever they are, I really like museums. And the bottom line is, I think the exhibition is worth seeing and the service of the staff was really nice.

They prepare leaflets translated in several languages including (surprisingly) Japanese, and the staff proactively handed it to visitors when they enter. Although it has small information, but it apparently helps visitors to understand what the exhibition is about.

A short 3D film titled "Petropolis" (which I thought really nice as if it was an hommage to hommage to Fritz Lang's Metropolis) was especially interesting and really informative to understand the concept of the museum as the introduction. The scale of the exhibition is reasonable, and the exhibitions also introduce a lot of aspect of the subject in different ways, so that the visitors hardly get bored to see all of them.

There are many things I was interested in, but the most unforgettable thing was one short film displayed at the corner. It seems to depict a diver at a oil platform. Even though the poster resembles one scene of Armageddon, and the story reminds me The Sea Inside (c.f. I posted the review before), it somehow stuck me, and I involuntarily made a note of the title, which was Pionéren (The Bend). I googled about it after I came back to Tokyo, and I found that my impression was pretty close.

そういえば、スタヴァンゲルのことを話し忘れていましたね。

あまり日本では知られていない都市ではないかと思うし、現地を歩いてみても普通の小さな港町くらいにしか見えないところです。ですが実際には、1960年 代に北海油田の開発が始まって以来、石油産業の基地都市となっていて、そのためノルウェーの中でも今や、最も影響力のある重要な都市のひとつとなっていま す。

そんな理由もあって、この町にはノルウェー石油博物館(Norsk Oljemuseum, Norwgian Petroleum Museum)というものがあります。

博物館は港の近くにあり、建物は小型の石油プラットフォームみたいな形です。展示では"石油と天然ガスがどのように生成、発見、算出され、それが何のため に使われているのか"、そしてこうした産業がノルウェーの社会にどのような関連があるのかについてを説明しています。

石油にもエネルギー産業にも特に関心はなかった私ですが、別にどんなものでも構いませんでした。だって博物館自体が大好きだから。それに結論から言うと、 ここの展示は見る価値があるし、スタッフのサービスも本当に良かったです。

何カ国語かに訳されたリーフレットが用意されていて（驚くべきことに、その中に日本語もありました）、何も言わなくても入場時に渡してくれます。大したこ とは書いていないただの案内だけれど、展示の大体の内容を把握できるようになっています。

また「ペトロポリス(Petropolis)」（フリッツ・ラングの映画『メトロポリス』へのオマージュみたいで、私はこのタイトル、好きですね）と名付 けられた、短い3Dフィルムはとても面白く、導入として、博物館のコンセプトを理解するのに非常に役に立ちました。展示の規模もちょうど良く、博物館の テーマに対して、様々な側面から様々な方法で紹介しているので、入場者をあまり飽きさせません。

興味を引かれたものは結構あったんですが、忘れられないものの一つが、端の方でひっそりと映されていた短編映画。石油プラットフォームの潜水作業者のこと を描いたと思しき映画でした。ポスターはなんだか『アルマゲドン』の1シーンぽいし、筋書きはどうも『海を飛ぶ夢』（以前にレビューを書いてますね）を彷彿とさせる感じだったのですが、な んとなく気になってしまい、ついタイトルのメモをとってしまいました。『Pionéren (The Bend)』といいます。bendって潜水病ですよね。東京に戻ってからググってみて、あたらずしも遠からずだな、と思った次第です。
