Norway in a Nutshell (ノルウェイ・イン・ナットシェル)
Norway has a number of attractions for tourists, but anything of all, the scenic beauty of fjord draws their attention. Apparently, excursion to the Sognefjord is the most popular fjord sightseeing in Norway, and I went there on my way from Bergen to Oslo.
The Sognefjord (Sognefjorden) is the largest fjord in Norway, and the second longest in the world. This 205km strip of sea is located between Oslo and Bergen. Such accessible location from large cities makes a number of tourists go there. Yet, the great nature likely refuses modern convenience. We have to make several connections of transportation for the excursion.
Norway in a Nutshell is a superb solution for the problem proposed by Norwegian tourism. It is a series of surprisingly well-organised train, bus and ferry connections to access to the south side branch of the Sognefjord, the Aurlandsfjord and the World Heritage site Nærøyfjord.

As it is the simply transportation package, tourists have several options of journey to the Sognefjord depending on your schedule. If you don't have time for staying at somewhere along the fjord, you can take a day trip, which also I chose.
The Nutshell in one day also has basically 4 options. Sensible adults may choose round trip as they don't have to take your baggage with you. And especially, round-trip from Bergen is the easiest because it is the shortest and time-efficient.
My friend and I chose one-way from Bergen to Oslo as I said before. But honestly, I was sceptical about the schedule and suspicious that many people have chosen the same route. It seemed to me that the coordinated connection was too good to be true thinking of European standard and the total 14 hours trip with baggage is hectic. The fact is, however, many people went the same was as mine without problem.
You might think it doesn't have a big difference whichever the your destination is if you choose one-way as both don't miss any Nutshell route, but I thought that the way from Oslo thorough Bergen might be better than the converse route at the end of the Nutshell excursion from Bergen to Oslo. Firstly, arrival time at your destination is earlier if you depart from Oslo, which is less tiring. And secondly, although the main scenic view from the train is between Oslo and the fjord, your energy won't be left on the way back from the fjord if you depart from Bergen.
I was too tired to remember what I did on the day I arrived in Oslo , but now (nearly a month passed) I think it was the greatest experience in this journey. I'm going to tell you gradually with some pictures of spectacular view.

ソグネフィヨルド（Sognefjord）はノルウェー最大の、そして世界でも二番目に長いフィヨルドです。この205kmにおよぶ細長い海域はオスロとベルゲンの間にあり、その地の利からたくさんの旅行者が訪れています。ですが偉大なる自然は現代の利便性を拒むもので、この小旅行をするためには何度も乗換をしなくてはなりません。
ナットシェルはこの問題を解決するためにノルウェーの観光業界が用意した非常によくできたプランです。正確には「Norway in a Nutshell」という名で呼ばれ、"かいつまんで(in a nutshell)"ノルウェイを満喫するための、列車、バス、そしてフェリーの乗り継ぎを考えて作られたパッケージ旅行のことを指し、これによってソグネフィヨルドの南側の支流であるアウルランフィヨルド(Aurlandsfjord)と世界遺産であるネーロイフィヨルド(Nærøyfjord)へ行くことができます。
英語のガイドブック、Rick Steves' Scandinaviaに、このナットシェルのことが非常によくまとまって説明されていたので、簡単に訳したいと思います。
このようにナットシェルは純粋な乗車券パッケージなので、旅行者は自分達のスケジュールに合わせてソグネフィヨルドへの旅の形をいくつか選ぶことができます。もしもフィヨルド地帯のどこかで泊まるような時間がないならば日帰り旅行も可能なわけで、私が今回とったのも、この形でした。
日帰りのナットシェルだと、基本的には（周遊か片道か、出発地はどちらかによって）4つの行き方があります。賢明な大人なら、大きい荷物を持たずに動ける周遊旅行を選ぶかもしれません。とくに、ベルゲンからの周遊は、移動距離が最も短くて効率の良いスケジュールなので、最もお手軽です。
最初に書いたように、友人と私はベルゲンからオスロまでを1日で抜ける旅を選びましたが、正直なところ提示されている日程が実現されているのか疑わしかったし、たくさんの人が自分達の選んだルートと同じように旅するとは到底思えませんでした。なんというか、ヨーロッパの鉄道事情を考えると、スケジュールにある乗り継ぎはあまりにスムーズ過ぎていたし、長旅の荷物を持ったまま14時間にもおよぶ旅をするというのはあまりに慌ただしいと思ったのです。ですが実際に参加してみると、たくさんの人が自分達と同じようにナットシェルを利用していたし、旅行中に特に大きな問題もありませんでした。
片道旅行で行くことを考えた時、全行程はカバーするのだから、どちらへ向かって行っても大して違わないと思う人がいるかもしれませんが、実際にベルゲンからオスロへ行ってみた経験から言わせてもらえば、オスロからベルゲンに行く方が良いのではないかと思います。なぜならまず第一に、終着地への到着時間がオスロから出発したほうが早く、それだか疲れないということがあります。第二に、列車から見える景色の見所はオスロからフィヨルドまでの路線にあるのですが、もしもベルゲンから出発することになると、それを帰途に見ることになり、なかなか気力がそこまで続かないというのがあります。
オスロに着いた日には、その日に何をしたかも覚えていないくらい疲れていましたが、一か月近く経った今思うと、今回の旅で最も素晴らしい体験だったと思います。これから少しずつ、素晴らしい景色を写した写真とともにお伝えしたいと思います。

The basic idea is this: Take a train halfway across the mountainous spine of Norway, make your way down to the Sognefjord for a boat cruise, then climb back up out of the fjord and get back on the main train line.
