If you go to Bergen from Stavanger, I strongly recommend to take a express boat unless the weather is really bad. Although it takes 4 hours to get there, you will see the fjord coastline from the seaside.

The express boat service is provided by Tide, and it goes from Stavanger to Bergen along the coast. You can easily purchase your ticket on the website, If you buy it in advance, the fare is less expensive. Only you have to do after booking is to bring the hard copy of the ticket delivered to your e-mail box and go to the port in the northeast of city centre of Stavanger, which is the same place the ferry to Tau was waiting, before it leave. (Be careful, it departs on time.) When you are boarding, a crew asks your name and destination and record your answer. It might be the substitution of a boarding list.

The boat isn't so large as ferry, of course, but you hardly get seasick as it sails on between coasts where there are not big waves, usually. It is very clean, the seats are comfortable, the view from the deck is wonderful and cafeteria offers food and beverages including beer. Since it was beautiful sunny day when I took this boat, it was enjoyable to see beautiful sea and fjord coastline. It might be much fun if I had draught beer, though I couldn't do this time for some reason. I was a bit jealous about guys next to our seat looked happy as they drank a lot. Oh, I have good news for the Internet addict..., the boat offers free wireless LAN service and there are some electric outlets inside the cabin, so that you can surf the net while the boat is surfing along the coast.

My boat departed Stavanger at high noon. 4 hours later, the passengers saw the port of Bergen surrounded in front of your eyes. Many ships including luxury cruise ships were in harbour and I saw Bryggen (I will explain about the buildings later) on the left-hand side. Obviously, the city is larger than Stavanger, and the port was full of people. I have heard it rains in Bergen at any time of the year, but the sky was still blue when I arrived.

スタヴァンゲルからベルゲンに行くようなことがあるならば、天候が極めて悪い時を除いて、高速船に乗ることをお勧めします。時間は4時間と少々かかりますが、海の上からフィヨルドの海岸を眺めることができるからです。

高速船もTideによって運行されており、スタヴァンゲルからベルゲンを海岸沿いに進んでいきます。チケットはウェブサイトで簡単に購入できますし、早めに購入すると、いくらか値段が安くなります。予約さえしたら、あとは自分のメール宛に届いたチケットのコピーを持って、出発時刻までにプレーケストーレンに行った時に乗ったタウ行きのフェリーが出るのと同じ、スタヴァンゲルの北東側の乗り場に行けばよいでけです。（本当に時間通りに出港しますので、利用する人は注意してくださいね。）　乗るときに乗務員が名前と行先を聞いてきて、その返答を録音します。乗船名簿の代わりみたいです。

もちろん高速船はフェリーほど大きくありませんが、海岸の間を縫って走るのでそんなに大きな波もなく、船酔いすることはあまりないはずです。とてもきれいで、シートも快適だし、デッキから見える景色も素晴らしく、それにカフェテリアでは食事も飲み物も買えます。ビールもあります。私が高速船に乗った日は、本当によく晴れていたので、きれいな海とフィヨルド海岸を眺めるのは本当に楽しかったです。これが生ビール片手にだったら、もっと楽しかっただろうなあ、と近くの席でビールを何杯もおかわりして真っ赤になっている男の人たちを見て羨ましく思っていました。あ、それにネット中毒の人に朗報ですが、この船内、無料で無線LANにつなげるし、電源コンセントも船内にいくつかあるので、ボートが海岸沿いを走っている間にネットサーフィンを楽しむこともできるわけです。

私の乗ったボートはスタヴァンゲルを正午に出てました。4 時間後にはベルゲンの港が乗客の目の前に広がっていました。豪華客船を含め、いくつもの船が停泊しており、ブリッゲン(あとで説明しますね）が左側に見えます。明らかにスタヴァンゲルよりも大きな町で、港は人で賑わっていました。ベルゲンでは年中いつでも雨が降ると聞いていたのですが、着いたときもまだ空は青く、とても良い天気でした。
