from Bergen to Voss (ベルゲンからヴォスへ)
My Nutshell journey started early in the morning of June 8 at Bergen station.
My friend and I had arrived a half an hour before, so that we fetched something to eat at a kiosk or a café in the station after making sure when the train left. I had read a guidebook saying that it would be better to prepare something to eat as there wasn't much free time during the way and the food wasn't reasonable when you buy on ferry or on train. So I bought a cup of coffee and an apple for breakfast on the train and a sandwich for lunch.
Bergen station has several platforms but there wasn't anything special. Yet personally, it was fun. I have seen a Norwegian film about a retiring Bergen Railway driver titled O'Horten
. It is a road movie far from excitement that the events are taken place mainly in Oslo, but there is a memorable scene is shot in Bergen Station. So I was fascinated by the plain platform, which seemed just ordinary and boring for other people, as I remembered the film.
Our train just arrived at the station soon. It was an ordinary European local train. It departed 8.40 am on schedule, and at this point, I concluded that Norwegian transportation was punctual.
The train went along the Osterfjord, lakes and river systems. A pamphlet mentioned that the fjord ended at Bolstad (about the 2/3 of our way between Bergen and Voss) and freshwater rivers and lakes are found in the eastward, but honestly, I couldn't distinguish the inland sea and lakes as both of them had no different from me. I saw them between beautiful mountains, and the view was similar to the landscape around the Troldhaugen where I went the day before.
The train stopped several stations, and over an hour later, it arrived at Voss, a small station about 7km east from Bergen. The one-way Nutshell travelers got off heading for a fjord site, but the train soon departed the station and went to Myrdal where we would go later.
私のナットシェルの旅は6月8日の早朝、ベルゲン駅から始まりました。
友人と私は出発の30分前に駅に着いていたので、列車の出発時間を確認した後、駅構内にあるキオスクやカフェで食べ物を買いました。読んでいたガイドブックに、旅の途中で食べ物を買う時間もなければ、値段も手ごろではないので何か準備しておいた方が良い、とあったので、ホットコーヒーとりんごを車内での朝食用に、サンドイッチを昼食用に買いました。
ベルゲンの駅には複数のプラットフォームがありますが、特に取り上げるようなものはありません。でも個人的にはとても楽しかったんです。というのも、旅行の前に『ホルテンさんのはじめての冒険
』という、定年退職直前のベルゲン急行の運転士が主人公の映画を見ていて、その時に駅が撮影されていました。ロードムービーなんですが、全然ワクワクしない地味な話な上に、ほとんどの出来事はオスロで起こるのですけれど、そのベルゲン駅のシーンが印象的だったのです。だから他の人からはいたって普通で面白味もないただのプラットフォームでも、私にとっては興味を引かれるものでした。
私の乗る列車は間もなく駅に到着しました。これもまた普通のヨーロッパのローカル列車です。定刻通り、8時40分に出発しました。この時点になってようやく私は、ノルウェーの交通は日本並みに時間に性格なんだと判断しました。
列車はオステルフィヨルド(Osterfjord）、そして湖と河川群に沿って走ります。パンフレットによると、フィヨルドはボルスタッド（Bolstad, ヴォスまでの道のりの2/3くらいのところにあります）で終わり、そこから東にあるのは河川と湖とのことなのですが、正直なところ、私にはどちらも同じように見え、内海なのか湖なのかの区別がまるで付きませんでした。山々の間に水が見える、という景色は、その前日に行った Troldhaugen の周りの景色に似ていました。
列車はいくつかの駅に泊まり、1時間ほどでヴォス(Voss)に着きました。ここはベルゲンから7km程東にある小さな駅で、片道旅行の人達はここで列車を降り、フィヨルドの方へ向って行きます。ですが列車自体はすぐに終点のミュールダルに向かって出発してしまいました。ミュールダルに私達が行くのは、フィヨルドからの帰途になります。
