Alice Springs Station

The train stopped at Alice Springs before 9.00 am. There was nothing but the flat station. Some passengers left the train and departed to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Actually, this city is the gateway to Uluru (as also known as Ayers Rock). Although it is the nearest large city, Uluru is over 300km away.

All passengers had to get off for the train maintenance at the station. The train usually stops there for 3-4 hours so that most people leave the station for a while even if they don't join the tours The Ghan offers. Many people seemed to go to city centre by bus.

We all had been waiting tour coaches and a shuttle bus, but it didn’t come soon since the train had arrived earlier than the schedule. The sun was strong and the temperature in the morning was 45 °C. Everyone went into the shade while they are waiting. In addition, we were annoyed by flies. I don't know why, but a number of flies were there in Alice Springs. I flapped them away constantly while I was standing outside.

列車はアリス・スプリングスに午前9時前に到着しました。そこには平屋の駅だけで、あとは何もありませんでした。何人かの乗客はここで降りて、ウルル-カタジュタ国立公園に行くとのことでした。この町はウルル（エアーズ・ロックのことです）へ行くための玄関口なのです。とはいえ、ウルルとは300km以上離れているのですが。

私たち乗客は、ツアーバスや市内へのシャトルバスを待ちましたが、列車が予定より早く着いたために、バスはなかなかやって来ませんでした。日差しは強く、午前中なのに気温も45℃と、とても暑い日でした。バスを待つ間、みんなみんな日陰に入っていたほどです。それにハエも厄介でした。なぜかは分かりませんが、アリス・スプリングスにはハエがたくさんいました。外にいる間ずっと、私はそのハエを払いのけるのに必死でした。
