From Tokyo to Cairo (東京からカイロへ)

I am not sure if the access from Tokyo to Cairo is still the same, but in 2005, there was only Egyptair has a direct flight to Cairo. I had found that flying to Cairo via European cities was more reasonable and the arriving terminal of Cairo Airport was newer and cleaner, but I couldn't book any other tickets to Cairo except the flight of Egypt Air.

It took 14 hours even though it was nonstop. It was nearly a torture for me to sitting on a small economy seat without sleeping (as I'm afraid that I cannot fall asleep on a plane easily). One thing I clearly remember is weird behaviour of Egyptian crew, which is that they all changed into T-shirts after serving the first meal. It made sense because 14-hours-flight was uncomfortable if they were wearing uniforms jacket and shirts. Yet, I personally thought that it might be improper if they took hospitality seriously.

現在の東京からカイロへのアクセスが当時と同じかどうかはわかりませんが、2005年にはカイロまで直行便を出しているのはエジプト航空しかありませんでした。ヨーロッパの都市経由でカイロに言った方が運賃も安く、カイロでの到着ターミナルはもその方が新しくてきれいだというのを知ったのですが、このときはエジプト空港のチケットしか残っていなかったのです。

直行便とはいえ14時間もかかるフライトでした。一睡もせず（飛行機で眠るのがどうも苦手なのです）に狭いエコノミーシートに長いこと座っているのは苦痛以外のなにものでもなかったのですが、それ以外に鮮明に覚えているのはエジプト人乗務員の不思議な行動でした。最初の食事のサービスが終わった途端、皆Tシャツに着替えたことです。確かに14時間の長旅でシャツにジャケットという制服姿は窮屈でしょうが、接客ということを真面目に考えるのであれば、不適切じゃないかと思ったものです。
